If you are a construction/site manager, day to day you will most probably come across issues and snags or have to carry out some sort of audit or checklist, all of which you then have to go and type up into some sort of report at the end of the day to communicate to the project team, along with a number of emails that go with that.
Well with BIM360 Field we can significantly reduce those sort of tedious tasks by moving all of our existing project documentation such as checklists and snagging into a system which can be accessed via an iPad and taken out on site, utilising additional functionality such as issue management and quality control.
For example, by moving a checklist used for a health and safety audit into BIM360 Field, we can capture the information live on site via an iPad and let the system create the report. It’s about capturing information once and then re using it, why should we do twice the work? As the data is stored in a database we can then use it to automatically produce our report, removing the need to go back to the office and create one manually. As we carry out a checklist and come across any non-conformance, we can add an issue to the issue management area on the go which will alert the relevant sub-contractor of that non-conformance and begin to track the issue, chasing the relevant person automatically so you don’t have to. It will also store photos, locations, comments and more within that issue, meaning we have all the information we need about it all under one roof. Again we can create reports on issues automatically so no more taking photos on your phone and having to go back to the office and copy them from your phone to your pc and type everything up manually because we have already input the information. All of this information we are creating can then be used as our full audit trail.
From a business and project management point of view, we are now collating all of this information on our projects so of course we can report across projects too. This means we can report on, for example, who is the most non-conforming sub-contractor, who has the most issues, who is taking the longest to close out issues, who is creating the most issues etc. with minimal effort. This information can be viewed via a nice overview visual to give you a fast, at a glance look at how your project is performing.
