By working in the cloud we can create some great workflows and start connecting our data more easily. In previous articles we have looked at how we can use BIM360 Field to improve our quality process and digitise our current documentation (Spend less time in the office and more time out on site) and also how we can populate our model with additional information to enable delivery of an asset information model (Quickly create an Asset Information Model in the cloud).

In this article, I wanted to show you how we can save time by linking already digitised elements in BIM360 Field together to provide users with on demand access to equipment information. I am going to use a simple example of a boiler, which I can click on within the model and view all of the information related to it. The information I am after may be; specifications, maintenance manuals in PDF format, commissioning checklists created in BIM360 Field itself, issues that we encountered through the construction and commissioning process, photos and any communication. I am essentially after a full audit trail of the boiler life.

On the iPad, we can select the geometry in the model viewer pic1.pngWe can then bring up all of the related information that has been collated through the project, it is important to take note of the tabs at the top as they are key.pic2.png

Details – Model meta data created in BIM360 Field (Modifiable).
Checklists – Shows any checklists that has been carried out on the boiler, also allows you to create a checklist there and then creating that link between the geometry and checklist.
Issues – Shows any issues the boiler has incurred during its life, also allows you to create issues there and then, again creating that link.
Attachments – Can be any file such as specs, photos and O&M manuals, giving the iPad user on demand access.
Activity – Shows communication around the boiler.

Available on the desktop client is ‘History’ which allows you to see a full audit trail of all activity around the boiler.

Capture.PNGThis is a very powerful tool and the cloud enables this to work so well – Look out for other BIM360 products that can further improve your current workflows.
