Combining Data

Creating schedules in Revit is a fantastic way to produce quick quantities and materials. One of the lesser known functions within the scheduling tool is the Combined Parameters option. pic1.jpg

This allows the user to create a field where the value is populated by other fields within the schedule. pic2.jpgFor example, drawing numbers are often broken down into individual parameters to represent project number, originator etc. However, in order to see the name of the sheet in full, we can use the combined parameters field to take each value of these separate parameters to populate an overall sheet number. This could also be applied when users want to create a product code where choices have been made from a series of options. You may have selected a door by first isolating the internal ones, then only the ones made of oak and finally chosen the one with a fire rating of 4. By combining the door type parameter, the material parameter and the fire rating parameter your resulting combined parameter would be door-internal-oak-4.

Simply by adding the schedule parameter you want to be included in the overall number and choosing to use a prefix, suffix or separator if you wish, the final value is automatically generated.
