Autodesk has published a new version of the Desktop Connector that allows BIM 360 Docs users to connect their desktop to the BIM 360 cloud.
The Desktop Connector is a powerful file management solution that connects the cloud seamlessly to your desktop, allowing you to easily organise 2D and 3D data in your architecture and engineering design projects.
- With Desktop Connector, you can now open, save, move, rename and delete files from your cloud-based BIM 360 Team hubs directly from your desktop or desktop application.
- If you are part of more than one hub in BIM 360 Design each of them will appear on your desktop with the standard disk and file tree structure of Windows® Explorer or macOS® Finder. You can access hubs in Explorer or Finder just like any other folder on your machine.
- The file structure of your virtual drive BIM 360 Design, from hub level all the way down to individual files, can be mirrored on your desktop as well as your team members’ desktops. If they have permission to view these files, your teams can now easily access them too.
- Manage files in your cloud-based hub just like you would on your computer, all from your desktop. Drag-and-drop, copy to the cloud, you can do it all.
The latest release of Desktop Connector for BIM 360 includes the following improvements:
1. Right click functionality – delete (files and folders), rename (folders) and create (folders) is now supported.
2. Improved caching to improve user experience and performance.
3. Multiple bug fixes including accounts and projects not showing following installation, performance and crashing problems when uploading large number of files, Revit links failing to load, “Item with the same key” warning when transferring files from the desktop.
In order to benefit from this update, all users should download and install it from this link.
Please note the following:
- The current version of Desktop Connector will no longer work from 22nd August. You will be required to install the latest version (6.2.0.674) after that date to continue using Desktop Connector.
- The new version of the Desktop Connector will install on top of the old version. Simply run the .exe
