Civil 3D 2020 - Elevate Contours with Query

When importing .shp file contours using MAPIMPORT, you may not always get the right data in the right place. Something useful like “elevation” might be object data, rather than the property of the geometry:

This can be converted with Map 3D, or the Map Workspace (MAPWSPACE command) in Civil 3D with a Query.

In the Map Explorer Tab, add the drawing with the data (1) and then Define the Query (2):

Then setup the query definition as below, where the Expression (3) is converting the blank geometry elevation to the correct “elevation” data category.

This now shows correctly:
