3ds Max is so full of features it is easy to miss new or updated features. One of Max’s new features is the improved Viewport functions. Default settings now include the enabling of Ambient Occlusion (AO) to be visible when working within your active Viewport, and when working with Lights, shadows are now default set to be "On".
Viewport configurations can be saved as Presets. This interface can be accessed via the View Menu, on the Viewport Per-View Settings.
When working with multiple monitors it is now possible to float a viewport onto another screen, keeping the Max workspace area uncluttered.
