Question:

When I create an Image Mosaic in GeoServer, any area where I don’t have a tile is shown as a black square, how can I change that colour?

Answer:

If you create an Image Mosaic in GeoServer any areas with missing tiles will, by default, be shown as a black square.

This can however be changed per Layer by editing the Layer and choosing the Data Tab. In the Data tab scroll down to the section titled Input Transparent Color.

By default, the value will be blank.

However, if you wish any missing tiles to be shown as White, simple type the HEX value for White – FFFFFF

Now if you save the changes to the Layer and Preview the Image Mosaic via OpenLayers, you will see that the black tiles now show as White tiles.
