QGIS – Geometry Paster

Did You know…. There is a Plugin for QGIS that allows you to copy the geometry from one record to another record – the Geometry Paster!

This could be very useful, for example if there are multiple planning applications at the same location.. or if you have created incorrect geometry…. You can now very easily replicate geometry from other features.

To install the plugin, choose Plugins > Manage and Insall Plugins > search for the Geometry Plaster tool and install.

 The new tool will be available in the Plugins menu.

 In this example, we have a Planning Apps layer with two planning app features showing in the map. On the left is the geometry of the Church building (App 1)... and we wish to update the geometry of the planning application on the right (App2) to replicate the church building…. 

 To do this….

1 – Make the Planning Apps layer editable…

2 – Select the geometry of the planning App on the left (App1) – and choose Copy…

3 – Then select the planning app on the right (App2) and from the plugin’s menu > choose the Geometry Paster tool > Paste Geometry.

The geometry of your new planning application (App2) is updated using the geometry of the Church building (App1)…. So, when you identify the features at that location there are now 2 planning applications.

This plugin is a great tool for quickly copying geometries between features or fixing incorrect geometry!
