MapThat v6.2.2 onwards now has an update to the Capture Tool which allows users to select multiple features to Capture and merge into their drawing feature.

The MapThat Drawing Tools have a Capture tool which allows the user to select a feature from another layer, for example OS Mastermap, to then copy and paste that into their Drawing Layer. This is very useful when trying to create features with complex geometry!

However, the Capture tool only allowed users to select one feature at a time. So, in the example below where you wish to Capture the Building, as well as the front and back garden of a property this wasn’t possible in one go.

However – NOW – we have updated the CAPTURE tool to allow users to Capture multiple features in one go!

To do this simply ensure that you have ticked Create Multipart Geometry.

And now when you use the Capture tool you can click multiple times in the map to select more than one feature (shown below as red lined), Each time you select a new feature the Count updates e.g. below there are now 3 shapes selected to capture.

And once the feature is Captured and Saved, the three pieces of geometry are combined into one!

Note – if the geometries that you select to capture are not adjacent to each other e.g. below two separate School Buildings….

… once captured, these will be merged into 1 geometry, however the record will become a MultiPolygon feature.

We think this is a great enhancement to a very useful drawing tool… and as it is implemented in our Address and Street Management application it allows our LLPG users to capture complex BLPU Extents using multiple features from OS Mastermap!
