Why is Map3D failing to connect to a PostGIS database?

Answer:

In a recent White Paper I detailed the steps required to implement a PostGIS database on a remote server and allow access to that database from client applications such as QGIS, Map3D and InfraWorks.

The most notable tip within this paper is the following addition that will ensure that you can connect your Autodesk applications to PostGIS: 

“NOTE – Autodesk Applications, such as MAP3D and InfraWorks, will always try to connect to the default postgres database, even if it is not the database name that you wish to connect to. Therefore, ensure that your PG_hba.config file has a line item that allows connections to the postgres database.”
