What is a good size for a Revit component family?

Q. I have been told not to make families that are too heavy, what sort of file size should the families be?

A. This is a common issue in Revit, with elements often being far too heavy for effective working in a typical project. As a guide try and keep families below 1 megabyte (1 MB) in size.
