Question:

How can you create Spatial Bookmarks based on my layers within QGIS?

Answer:

The Convert Layer to Spatial Bookmarks Tool allows you to automatically create Spatial Bookmarks for all the features in your QGIS Layers.

In QGIS below I have a Point Layer showing the Leisure Centres for the London Borough of Islington.

From the Processing menu choose > Toolbox > and open the Vector General section.

Choose the Convert Layer to Spatial Bookmarks menu option.

The Convert Layer to Spatial Bookmarks tool will open.

We will use the following settings:

  • In the Input Layer choose the Leisure Centres layer
  • The options for Bookmark Definitions are:
    • Project Bookmarks – the bookmarks will be stored in the Project so can be shared with other users – we will choose this one.
    • User Bookmarks – the bookmarks will be stored locally in your QGIS and so available to you in any QGIS project.
  • Use the Leisure Centre Name as the Name field – this is used to name the bookmarks.

Note – if you cannot choose the desired Input Layer from the list, choose to Browse and open it manually.

If you now Run the Convert Layer to Spatial Bookmarks tool, it will create a Bookmark record for all the features in the Input Layer. Naming the bookmarks using the field set as the Name field.

In this case, we have now created 8 new Bookmarks representing the locations of each Leisure Centre in Islington.

This is such an easy way to create multiple Spatial Bookmarks for features in your GIS Layers!
