QGIS – Merge Raster Tiles

Question:

Is it possible to Merge Raster Tiles in QGIS?

Answer:

Yes, if you have 2 or more individual raster tiles, you can use the Raster > Merge command to merge the tiles into one new image.

From the Raster menu, choose Merge:

In the Input Layers panel choose the tiles to Merge, by ticking them one by one or choosing Select All.

Once you have chosen the tiles, choose Run.

The merge will run and show you both merged raster tiles as one image in the map window.

And the result will be added in the Layers list, but note that it is only a scratch layer available in this current project only.

However if you choose an output file name – this will save the image as a new .tif file,  or any other raster format.

If you now run the Merge, it will create the merged raster as a new image file.

You may notice that the output merge tile has a different colour palette to the input tiles.

To adjust the colour, choose the layer properties for the merged tiles > choose symbology > and change the Band Rendering > Render Type from Multiband colour….

To be Single pseudocolour.

Once applied, the merged tile now looks the same as the individual raster tiles.
