The Fillet Command

In AutoCAD, the Fillet command rounds or fillets the edges of two 2D objects or the adjacent faces of a 3D Solid. In this blog we will focus on creating 2D fillets.

Create 2D Fillets

A fillet can be created between two objects of the same or different object types: 2D polylines, arcs, circles, ellipses, lines and splines.

If the two selected objects are on the same layer, the rounded fillet arc is created on that layer. Otherwise, the fillet arc is created on the current layer.

In the example below, the fillet tool has been selected to round the four corners of a rectangular polyline. Note the highlighted options on the command line. Left click on the Radius option and change the default radius of 0 to 100 and press enter. Next select the multiple option and left click on the vertical and horizontal lines in turn. The result is shown on the second image below.

Note that the direction and length of the fillet arc is determined by the points picked to select the objects. Always select an object closest to where you want the endpoints of the fillet to be drawn.
