AutoCAD - Count #14 – Using the “Count” Command to Highlight Overlapping Objects

Another function of the “Count” command is the ability to highlight overlapping objects. Figure 1 shows part of a sample drawing.

Using the “Count” command, all or part of the drawing may be selected, as shown in Figure 2. The area selected is within the shown rectangle.

Once the area has been selected, the “Command Line” is displayed as in Figure 3.

The default option is “List All Blocks”, but the other option that is available is “Select Target Objects”. The user can now simply select an “Object” within the drawing, for example a “Line”, as shown in Figure 4.

All the “Lines” regardless of length or angle have been highlighted in “Green”, but where there is an overlap the “Lines” are highlighted in “Red”.

In the displayed “Count Table” for this example, there are 86 “Line” instances, and 6 errors, as shown in Figure 5.

Selecting each of the “Count Errors” in turn, AutoCAD will automatically “Zoom” in on the location of the selected error, a sample error shown in Figure 6.
