Revit 2024:  Adding Dimensions

Dimensions are a necessary feature of Revit modelling because they help you place your elements relative to one another.

Moreover, they let you visualise how your Revit model would appear as if it were going to be built in reality.

If you are producing drawings for a building to be constructed, then Dimensions are even more important, so builders know what to build and where.

Go to the Annotate tab > Dimension panel > to create dimensions for your Revit elements by length, angle, radius / diameter, elevation, or slope.

You need to select two elements or edges to create a dimension. Check the Options bar before you place it.

If you want to reference a dimension from something other than the default first selection by your mouse, press the Tab key on your keyboard to toggle other edges or elements from which to place your dimension.

The Options Bar

As mentioned above it is always a good idea to consider the options in the Options Bar when placing dimensions. By selecting the Openings and Widths options, the dimensions for the floor plan are quickly created by picking the walls.
