AutoCAD. Setting the Display of Selected Objects

#2 Selection Glow Colour.

This continues on from my previous blog which controlled the form of selected objects to either “Glow” or “Dashed”.

The “Selection Glow Colour” can also be changed to suit the user’s requirements.

The “Glow” colour is controlled by the system variable “SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOUR”. Again this is a one-word type in command, the default value is set to “0”,

The sample drawing file contains the following colours, (3) green, (6) magenta, (30) orange and (140) mild blue, as shown in Figure 1.

The following examples show the effects of setting different values for the “Glow” colours on the selected objects.

Figure 2 shows the appearance of the selected objects, with the system variable “SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOUR” set to the default value of 0.

Values for the “Glow” colour can be set from 1 to 255, these are the standard ACI (AutoCAD Colour Index) colours.

Figure 3 again shows all the objects selected, but in this example the “SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOUR” is set to (3) green.

In the final example, Figure 3 shows all the drawing objects selected, but this time the “SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOUR” system variable is set to colour (6) magenta.

Note: - The “SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOUR” system variable only applies when the “SELECTIONEFFECT” variable is set to “1”.

The “Glow” colour can also be changed via the “Selection Effect Colour” in the “Selection” tab of the “Options” dialogue box, as shown in Figure 4.
