Creating a Splash or Front sheet in Revit

As part of your Company Revit Template, you may want to create a view on screen to be displayed when a project is opened. This is also known as a Splash Sheet, Cover or Front view and you can include many things such as:

• Table of contents (also called a sheet list, drawing index or sheet index)
• Project name and address
• Client information
• Vicinity plan
• Zone information
• Code compliance information
• List of project team members
• GIS Tile (Google Maps)
• Legal description of the property and its boundaries
• General notes

For example, below, we have a GIS tile taken from Google Maps, Separate boxes for Project and Client Information, Project Team and Site Details.

Because it includes different types of information other than sheets in the set, the Splash or Front Sheet typically uses a different format. You may need to create a title block specifically designed for the project, rather than in your template.

So, how do you insert and use the view you want when opening your project?

By default, Revit will use the last view that was open when the project was closed as the starting view. In the following instructions I will show you how you can create a custom starting view for your project and how to set Revit to use it when your project is opened.

Go to the Manage Tab (1), Manage Project panel and select Starting View (2)

This is where your new Splash or Front sheet will appear.

Firstly, make sure you have created a view or sheet (.RFA file) that you want to set as your splash screen. In the following example I have inserted a new sheet called Splash Sheet. Once you have opened it via ‘Sheets All’ in your project Browser, go back to:
