Question:

In QGIS when I connect to my GeoServer Web Feature Services (WFS) why can’t I save any edits?

Answer:

Its likely a security issue at Layer level!

In this example, when we connect QGIS to the WFS service and we try and save an attribute edit, an error message is shown saying it cannot commit the changes.

To resolve this, click to edit your layer in GeoServer and choose the Security tab.

Notice that by default no Role has Write access to the layer.

Simply tick the box in the Write column for the Roles that should have edit rights and press Save.

Now when you connect to the WFS using the updated Role, the layer will allow both attributes and geometry edits to be saved!
