Both Autodesk and we at ARKANCE prioritise security and proactively safeguard customer accounts and data against unauthorised access. As part of this initiative, Autodesk is rolling out a 2-step verification enhancement for their Autodesk ID accounts, utilising the industry-standard One-Time Passcode (OTP) verification mechanism - either through a verification mobile app or via email. This method of multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security and helps prevent unauthorised access from potentially unsafe devices, even if your login credentials are compromised. OTP is a widely adopted security standard, commonly implemented by leading software vendors and web applications to enhance account protection.
In each global region, the rollout will occur over 7-10 days from the start dates listed below:
- ANZ: 2 April 2025
- Asia Pacific (APAC): 10 April 2025
- Europe (EMEA): 22 April 2025
- Americas (USA): 1 May 2025
How Does OTP Work?
- If you are logging in with your Autodesk ID to an Autodesk product or web service on a new device or after a longer period, after entering your username and password, you will now receive an OTP code via email (from signin@autodesk.com), or through your authentication app or SMS to complete your login.
- This change will occur automatically (see the dates above) and requires no setup on your part.
- If you or your organisation already use Single Sign-On (SSO) or MFA, this update will not apply to you. If not, this process will be automatically enabled for you.
As you may know, you were and are able to preset MFA in your Autodesk Account setup. How to turn on 2-step verification:
- Download an authenticator app and install it on your mobile device.
- Go to Security in your Autodesk Account profile.
- Under 2-step verification, click Set Up.
- To reconfirm your identity, enter your email and password and click Sign In.
- Using (+) in your authenticator app, scan the QR code displayed in your profile.
- Enter the code for Autodesk generated by the authenticator app and click Turn on.
To summarise: if MFA has not been pre-configured on your account, Autodesk will begin using email-based verification as the default method for validating login attempts from new devices. This is the upcoming change you should be aware of.
