Did You Know:
There is a free plugin for QGIS that allows you to calculate the geometry of your map objects!
Usually if you wish to calculate the geometry of your map features you would use the Field Calculator tool… you can check this out in another ARKANCE blog below…
ukcommunity.arkance.world/hc/en-us/articles/21549896491282-QGIS-Extract-Geometry-Attributes
Alternately you can also do this using a QGIS Plugin called Calculate Geometry.
Once installed, the Calculate Geometry tool is available using the Context Menu for your layer.
Having chosen the tool, you can calculate the Area and Perimeter of map features,… choosing to either store the returned value in an existing field or allowing the system to create new fields for you.
Using the options on the end you can choose the units to extract (e.g. Metres) and the precision of the values.
Next choose the projection for the layer e.g. British Nation Grid.
… finally, if you have selected one or more map features from your layer,..
… you can choose to only extract the values for your selected records.
Once you run the tool, the values are calculated and inserted into your table,.. so, open the attribute table…
… and the Area and Perimeter values are now extracted.
… this plugin, now makes it even quicker for you to calculate the geometry of your map features.
Why not download the plugin,.. and give it a go,.. maybe using it to extract the length of lines in your map layers.
