Revit – Easy way to import selected view templates from a linked model

The venerable transfer project standards command is an out of the box method to transfer system families from one project to another. However, it is a bit limited as the file you wish to copy from also needs to be opened in Revit and when transferring system families it’s an all or nothing concept. You cannot pick and choose which system families to transfer. The only viable option is to transfer ALL the view templates across and then purge out the templates that are not required, meaning duplication of effort and wasted time.

View Templates are just another system family and sometimes on larger coordinated projects there is a need to selectively transfer view templates from one model to the next. This is easily achieved with this free add-in ‘Transfer Template’. All that is needed is to run the add-in, select the linked project and choose the view which view templates to transfer.

The Transfer Template add-in is available for Revit versions 2017 to 2020 and can be downloaded from the Revit App store here:
