In my previous blog we organised the project browser’s views and sheets by view type names. Another method that you can use to organise the project browser is with a custom parameter. First, we need to create a parameter called Organising Category. As you can see, it is a Text type of parameter that is Instance based.

All your views and sheets will now have that organising parameter tied to them. In your Revit template, assign parameters to the default views. Create default categories that you will normally use in all your projects. Use a number prefix to aid organisation.

1-Construction Documents

2-Work in Progress

3-Published Drawings

Start to assign the parameters to the views:

Now go to the Browser Organisation menu. Right click on the Views icon/title in the Project Browser and select Browser Organisation.

On the Views tab, click on New to create a new organisation scheme. Name it New Organisation.

Group the views with the Organising Category parameter and then by Family and Type.

Once the organisation scheme is complete, make sure that you activate it by checking the box.

Check the Project Browser. The views should be classified as shown below:

One drawback of this custom parameter organisational system is that the views that haven’t been assigned with a classification parameter will appear under the ??? category. To avoid this issue, assign an organising parameter to all views.
