When drawing a wall in Revit, the wall direction constraint options can appear greyed out, and users drawing walls cannot choose whether a wall is defined by height or depth.

The cause of this issue is the Wall’s type parameter: Function which has been set to ‘Foundation’ or the wall is of a Foundation type. Choosing another wall type that is set to Interior or Exterior will work as expected. Alternatively check that this wall type’s function has been set correctly i.e. is it actually a foundation wall? Foundation walls would typically go down from a reference level!

In the Type Property Dialogue, the Function can be checked and if necessary, altered. Once the setting is adjusted or the correct wall type selected, the direction constraint can be selected as expected.
