Revit 2023 introduced Data Exchanges, which lets you share a portion of your 3D Revit model with collaborators, without having to share the entire file.
This is currently supported between Revit and Inventor using the workflow below.
To start with, a Revit Workshared Cloud Model is needed, meaning BIM Collaborate Pro is required.
This can be started by going to Collaborate Tab> Manage Collaboration Panel>Collaborate.
With the Workshared Cloud Model open, create and appropriately name a 3D view that has the content needed for the Data Exchange. It is easiest to create a scope box or section view, which can then be used to limit a 3D view:
Then go to Collaborate>Publish Settings and create a dedicated named Set for publishing the 3D view:
and Publish Latest from the Revit Home screen:
Moving onto the ACC (Autodesk Construction Cloud). In Autodesk Docs, go to the 3D view created, and there is the option to Create Data Exchange:
Here it is best to create a sub folder in the Project for the Data Exchange, so that permissions/access can be managed:
It is then visible in Autodesk Docs:
For the Inventor user (Autodesk Docs access is required), go to the Collaborate Tab> Data Exchange:
Select the Project (top left) then Preview and Load:
This loads the Data Exchange faster than a native Revit file, and preserves the structure in the model browser:
Users can then Check for Updates or Suppress Link from the contextual menu:
This completes the workflow. The Revit user has control over what information is shared, and Inventor user is always working to the latest information.
