Revit Tip – Jogging a dimension in Revit

On a recent training course, I was asked if Revit could add a jogged symbol to a dimension object in a similar way to AutoCAD. This is sometimes necessary on certain drawings like a long section drawing where dimensions need to show at the beginning and end of a feature but the information in-between is not required.

Although Revit can split crop regions to create these types of drawings, it doesn’t allow jog symbols on dimension lines without the box modifiers. However, a simple workaround can be employed by using a generic annotation detail component which will mask the dimension line and provide the desired graphical effect.

A similar trick can be applied to break a dimension line when working in busy areas of drawings, such as risers or plant rooms.
