I am often asked in relation to the setting up of project templates the best way to migrate settings and standards from one Revit file to another. The long-established Transfer Projects Standards tool has been available to users for many years and is useful to transfer System families between projects. These include elements like walls, slabs, materials and view template settings.

However, there are certain things it does not transfer and this includes Schedule views! However, when defining project templates, there is usually a requirement to provide schedules in a certain format and style which adhere to an organisation’s format and theme. So, when setting up a project template, other tools should be considered in order to transfer styles and settings that are not supported by Transfer Project Standard. A command that is often missed by users is the Insert Views from File function, this will transfer not just schedules but also drafting views, reports and sheets.

Unfortunately, this tool does not yet support Legend Views. However, using Tools via the PyRevit scripting environment they can also be migrated between different project files, which can then be set as an organisations template. I will discuss this process in a future post.
