Revit Tip - Organising Revit Ribbon Tabs, your way!

Although Revit does not have quite the menu customisation capabilities of say AutoCAD, users can organise the Revit interface to some degree. Revit has a definite Architecture bias in terms of interface however, many users are more structural, infrastructure based and more concerned with beams, columns, pipework or other elements! Therefore, there is a need to reorganise the tab priority to suit those environments and workflows.

Tabs can be supressed with Revit’s Options dialogue box. Clicking on the relevant toggle will supress not just the menu tabs but also the keyboard shortcuts to those commands as well.

Sometimes, the buttons are required but just the order of tabs needs to be changed. A structural engineer may not be concerned with curtain panels, but they are concerned with elements like stairs which can only be accessed from the Architecture tab. Much of their work is concerned with structure and reinforcement etc. so the structures tab might need a greater prominence than Architecture. This is easier to do by pressing the CTRL key and dragging the tabs in a desired order. In the screen shot above, the ribbon menu has been customised and reordered to suit a more structural flavour!
