Any Content Center Library can be transferred from desktop to the Vault Server, or from the Vault Server to desktop.

The Library Transfer guide is quite straightforward and easy to use. It can be accessed from the Projects Tab -> Configure Content Center Libraries panel.

As an example, I have “MO Content” as a desktop content library (.IDCL) file that I would like to transfer to Vault and a “CadlineCustom” Vault Server (.MDF) library that I will transfer to desktop.

When the guide is launched, the transfer from desktop to Vault option is selected and the account and server details are filled in.

Then the desktop library is selected, and the transfer starts.

When the process is completed the library is available on the server and can be set as “In use” for the active project.

In a similar fashion, I will transfer “CadlineCustom” to desktop using the same guide but selecting “From Vault Server to Desktop Content”.

If I swap the access options via Tools-> Application Options to use Desktop Content, I can now see the “CadlineCustom” as available and can set it as “In use” for my project.

By accessing the libraries path I can see that .IDCL file has been created.

Keep in mind that:

  • After a library has been transferred, it is not automatically set as “In use” for the active project.
  • The library must be unique – if another library with the same name exists at the destination, the transfer will fail.
