Inventor - Promoting sketch based tolerances to model based definitions

If you are starting to use model-based definitions (MBD) in your models to keep all your design information within one file, you may be concerned about tolerance errors.

For example, you may apply a MBD to a feature within your model with a tolerance (Figure 1). However, a tolerance may already exist within the sketch that defines this feature (Figure 2).

This may lead to conflicting information between the model and the annotation.

However, if you make the sketch visible in the model you can right click and promote the toleranced dimension in the sketch (Figure 3) to be a MDB (Figure 4).

Then simply turn off the visibility of the sketch (Figure 5).
