The Preview tab in Vault displays the visualisation attachment of a file. Visualisation files can be created upon check in from the originating software (i.e. Inventor, AutoCAD) or generated by the Job Processor.

The Vault Thin Client requires a system generated visualisation for the preview. This means that the DWF/DWFx attachment must be created by the Job Processor.

However, on particularly large AutoCAD DWGs with a lot of detail, the default visualisation quality isn’t very high. When zooming in, certain elements within the drawing can be indecipherable.

The Job Processor is using DWG TrueView to process AutoCAD DWGs, and there are template files used when generating visualisations or PDFs. They are located in the Explorer subfolder of the Vault Client install directory. Default path is C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Vault Client 20xx\Explorer

Autodesk suggests editing the page setup in the template DWG to disable “plot object lineweights”  and enable “plot with plot styles”. More information is  available in this article.
