In Inventor 2022 exporting parts from Inventor to Fusion 360 was made available without the need for the Dektop Connector, but only for parts.

Now, in the 2023 release, we can send up whole assemblies. In addition, you can select which environment within Fusion 360 you wish to open the new file in.

For example, you can choose to create a file in Fusion that will allow you to apply subtractive machining processes.

If you do, you will be given a Fusion 360 Interoperability panel talking you through what this function will allow. You simply need to click continue.

Next you can choose which parts of the assembly you want to export and where whithin your Fusion Team you would like to save the file.

This will generate and store a link to the file in a folder within your model browser called Fusion Exports, where you can track what has been sent to Fusion.

Inside Fusion you can see the parts in the assembly have been turned into solids and you can apply your toolpaths to this model.

If you were to now make edits to the original file in Inventor you can upload the new version via the export link in the Fusion Exports folder.

Any changes will then be recognised in the Fusion file, warning you that an update is required.
